When to Book Your Newborn Photographer | Kearney, Hastings and Grand Island, NE

Expecting a baby? If you're looking for a newborn photographer in the Kearney NE area, here’s why the first two weeks are the best time for your session—and when to book to secure your spot!

Bringing a baby into the world, or adopting a baby, is one of the most beautiful and life-changing experiences. Those first few days are filled with sleepy snuggles, tiny fingers wrapped around yours, and the overwhelming feeling of love like you’ve never known before. As a newborn, I know how quickly this stage passes, and my heart is to help you freeze these fleeting moments with beautiful, timeless images.

Why the First Two Weeks Are Ideal for Newborn Photos

Newborn sessions are best scheduled within the first two weeks of life—ideally between days 5 to 14 days of babe’s arrival. During this time, babies are still in that dreamy, curled-up stage, naturally falling into those sweet, snuggly poses. They sleep more deeply, making it easier to gently guide them into those precious womb-like positions while capturing all the tiny details—wispy lashes, tiny toes, and those irresistibly squishy cheeks.

After two weeks, babies start to become more alert and less flexible, which can make those classic newborn poses a bit trickier. That’s not to say we can’t create beautiful images if your baby is a little older—every session is unique and tailored to your baby’s comfort—but those first two weeks truly offer the best opportunity for those sleepy newborn photos.

When to Book Your Newborn Photography Session

The best time to book your newborn session is during your second or third trimester. I recommend booking at least by your second trimester so we have plenty of time to plan your session, discuss any special requests, and ensure your due date is reserved on my calendar. Since I only take a limited number of newborn sessions per month to ensure flexibility for early or late arrivals, securing your session early ensures you have a spot on my calendar.

Once your baby arrives, we’ll finalize the session date within those first two weeks. If your baby comes earlier or later than expected, don’t worry—I’ll always do my best to accommodate scheduling adjustments!

What If I Miss the Two-Week Window?

Life happens, and sometimes newborn photos aren’t top of mind in those first few weeks—and that’s okay! If your baby is a little older, we can still create a beautiful session that captures your baby’s personality and connection with your family. Lifestyle newborn sessions, where we focus on natural, candid moments between you and your baby, are a great option for older newborns.
